Our Style & Method of Operation
Style
We believe that business training must be:
- Relevant - we insist on researching our clients' business before we prepare our courses so that we address company needs thoroughly and can talk the language of the delegates. Delegates will recognise straight away that the course has been developed especially for them and we find that that inspires confidence & trust and makes for exciting, productive results.
- Practical - technical theory, acronyms and jargon are fine but in our experience dealing with the practical concepts and techniques applied 'your business' work far harder. We prefer the tried-and-tested and common-sense approach to dry theory.
- Involving - we make sure that our courses engage delegates right from the start. Team brainstorms, quizzes, games, lateral thinking projects and focused role-play make sure that everyone has to make a significant input into the course content. We find that the more involved people are the more they remember and the harder the training works.
- Motivating - the very fact that people are being trained is, in itself, motivating. At M&L we recognise that it is essential to the success of every course we run that delegates leave the training room fired-up and dying to put their new-found skills into practice. We help this by being 100% motivated ourselves and conducting the sessions in an enthusiastic, energetic manner. We maintain a positive attitude throughout and, when criticism is warranted, we express it to individuals away from the group.
- Accountable - training is an substantial investment in your time and money. It also requires a 'leap of faith' that the trainer will help create the positive changes in the delegates' performances that you require. We absolutely understand the position of responsibility we will be in when we work on your behalf and we never underestimate the importance of delivering you a service that is completely reliable and gives you a proper return on investment. Our promise of performance is, 'If you are unhappy then you don't pay'. We welcome and encourage all feedback - in fact it is the lifeblood of our business.
- Fun - and why not?
Method of Operation
Our method of operation breaks down into three stages and we'd like to take you through a typical process from briefing to de-briefing. Please note that we try to take as much of the administrative burden off you as we can.
- Pre-course Preparation
- We need your brief with no details spared + any mission statement you may have and as much information as possible on your business.
- The details of the delegates attending - names, ages, primary job function, job history, email address & any special needs.
- Dates of courses & your thoughts on venues - (as a rule we prefer to work off-site as this makes the occasion more special and keeps people away from office distractions).
- We will prepare a course in outline form for you to amend and approve.
- Once we have your approval we will contact all the delegates to confirm details of when & where we are meeting and to ask them if they any strengths or weaknesses that we need to take into account when preparing the course for them.
- Course preparation is then completed.
- During the Course
- We like courses to start promptly and we work in breaks during the morning and afternoon sessions plus an hour for lunch.
- Course material takes the form of a combination of printed and PowerPoint projected material. We use laptops and projectors instead of writing boards as they are easier to read and keep records with. M&L provides all the materials and equipment needed for every course, (except IT courses when people should bring along their own laptops).
- Delegates will find that many of the PowerPoint slides are virtually empty. These are there for them to fill during the course through teamwork and brainstorming sessions.
- We tend to use OHP projectors with acetates for delegate presentations as they are handier and quicker than computers.
- At the completion of the course the trainer will distribute course assessment forms if you wish.
- After the Course
- Everyone involved will receive course notes, either via email or printed, personalised and bound. These notes will be a combination of the pre-prepared course material and the work created by the delegates during the course. Course notes are normally published within 48 hours of the course end.
- The trainer will ring you to discuss specific points of interest with you and to fix up a de-briefing meeting. Please note that we are happy to discuss the performance of individuals on the understanding that they are made aware beforehand of what is going to be said.
- We see the de-briefing meeting as an opportunity to:
- Discuss all issues arising from the course.
- Recommend any 'next steps' that the delegates should be taking to capitalise on their recent training.
- Get all course feedback from you.
- Cover off additional/follow-up training requirements.
- Ensure that everyone is happy with the course notes and that the key training points are understood and implemented by management.
